The Sky and The Sea Sometimes Look Blue

The Sky and the Sea Sometimes Look Blue explores the relationship between the sky and a screen in describing an experience of both confinement and freedom – a managing and negotiating of 'reality' and 'non-reality’. The work looks at the ways in which our contemporary understanding of space is dramatically interlinked with our notion of self.

  • Ella Belenky (b. 1991, USA) is a multi-disciplinary artist currently living and working in London, UK. Ella is interested in an expanded notion of print – the painterly gesture in conversation with a regurgitated and reformed printed version.

By combining and juxtaposing mark making processes, which sometimes seamlessly speak and sometimes clash, Ella references notions of the individual and the collective in a world where communication and relationships must also slide between different, and sometimes conflicting, modes of being.
