MA work

Smells Like a Table

The installation Smells like a Table explores the nuances of human perception and experience. The tangible inputs are being transformed through materials into a sculptural depiction. The work questions subjectivity of perceiving sound and colour within the seemingly factual photographic medium.

  • My practice has been oscillating between the subjects perception and representation of reality, objectivity and physicality. The work questions the photographic medium and its visual function as an imprint of reality. The camera is utilised for capturing the ungraspable of the real understood through the human experience. The concepts contain a utopian idea within the methodology, a futile effort to capture something unattainable, resulting in a poetic vulnerable depiction. To oppose the original attempt of duplicating the real, creating a new space to understand experience in a related but attainable viewing piece of work.
