Back pain is very common – it’s estimated that up to eight in every ten people in the UK are affected at some point in their lives. It not only influences every aspect of many individuals’ lives, but also causes millions of lost working days, equating to £10 billion in indirect costs each year.

To prevent individuals from experiencing recurrent back pain, and having it develop into chronic symptoms later in life, it is crucial to help them to build healthy patterns of behaviour during the early years.

Bandi is a service aimed at empowering young people to self-manage their back pain by tailoring support to their physical condition and lifestyle. By capitalising on technology, Bandi provides a personalised programme aligned with an individual’s lifestyle, helping them to gradually build healthy habits and empowering them with the information they need to take charge of their back pain. It also helps individuals to self-evaluate their posture and visualise their daily activity.

The service is primarily designed for young people who are busy building a career or pursuing education, which requires them to sit and be inactive for most of their waking hours. It provides exercises and stretches that align with their daily routine, to reduce pain and feel better, rather than feeling like it adds another burden to completing a workout.
