I believe it is unproductive to separate intellect and feeling when considering an artwork. The experience one gets from a work of art, what may be called a genuine aesthetic experience, is not found in the demanding effort of intellectualising, nor in prelearned passive consumption, rather it is in a loving desire to understand what is loved naturally. My hope is that the experiencing subject employs speculation and imagination to follow the correlations and contrasts between knowledge, experience and aesthetic form.
