Two illustrated wall hangings:
1. No-Thing
The wall hanging echoes
a narrative of ‘perfection’ as understood in Buddhist philosophy. A focused and
uncluttered mind is represented here by the Elephant and the Mahout
(Elephant Rider). Surrounding the protagonists are the mental states that
obscure and congest the mind’s clarity (top left to bottom right: attachment,
boredom, fear and pain). The story concludes in both psychological and material
attachments vanishing into a black hole. The inspiration for this piece lies in
traditional Tibetan imagery, Indian chintz textiles and contemporary science
documentaries.
2. I am
Wall hanging inspired by the Chinese medicine understanding of the human body as a country, with the heart as its emperor and the microcosm as a representation of the macrocosm.

Daphne Christoforou is an artist/illustrator from Cyprus currently living in London. She is fascinated by ancient oriental artwork such as Hindu imagery, Tibetan iconography and Indian miniature painting. Daphne is drawn to the visual richness, naivete and historical context of this imagery, but most importantly to its depth of meaning and link with eastern philosophy and spirituality. These are elements that she aims to incorporate in her work, with a contemporary twist.Â
