Physical CAD, Damon Millar
CAD isolates people from material and process. Craftsmen, working in real materials, find synergy between shape, materials and process. Physical CAD emulates materials and the making process. It gives CAD users the craftsman’s ability to make complex parallel decisions about shape and process simultaneously, removing the need for iteration.
A new benefit emerges: if the emulation is good enough, people who are already experts in materials or processes can use their existing skills; they are no longer alienated from CAD by the skill-set.
Physical CAD: use real skills for faster, more integrated design.
