Meine Dornen stechen zu, dass du ewig an mich denkst.
Rooted in the realms of the folk and fairytale. Cira Huwald's practice takes on the manifestation of a fantastical world created in the mind. Through a combination of drawing, text, sound and staged scenarios with bronze creatures, she creates an imagined world that echoes in the past and present.
Informed by the brutality and fear that exist in the fairytale world, the protagonists created emphasise a border between the cute yet also violent and distorted characteristics that are part of an ongoing narrative. The creatures evoke sensations of desire, edginess and playfully allure the viewer.
Works such as “ Heiden Röslein” and “Erlkönig” from Goethe have become strong reference points. The stories both connecting to ideas of being threatened by something other and hidden sexual indications.

Born in Germany and raised in Ireland, Cira Huwald’s practice is strongly influenced by both cultures with a strong impact of the countries myths and tales. Having completed a BA in Sculpture and combined media in LSAD, Limerick, Ireland and currently in the Sculpture programme at the RCA, her practice has developed into a rich insight into a mixture of identities and interests that are embodied in a varied approach to creating works.
