MA work

Nature and crime offer two perspectives on the state of exception; as an urban retreat, the former retains a residuum of civicness within a contemplative landscape - Sunday walks, push- pram armies, furtive coupling and lunchtime footie - in the form of immigrant groups and terrorist suspects, the latter stands outside the law at risk of criminalisation. How can the park work as a critical civic space to make sense of our states of exception? Between London central and the South Coast, the borough of Croydon suggests a narrative of exile and return.
