A concept of weight is central in traditional jewellery; value is ascribed to individual pieces based on the weight of their precious metal and stone content.
Judgements on quality are weighed in the hand. Yet for the wearer it goes mostly unnoticed. For them, the hug of the ring is felt most by its absence.
