Passages and Encounters

What is presented is a total work in three distinct passages. The first passage pertains to the face and the daily ritual of painting upon it as if the surface of the face acts as a recording device in the play of interiority and exteriority. Each of the marks presents in turn the gestural economy of the face and with this its sense of accord with the world. The second passage within this presentation, are paintings of the body at the intersection of the actual and virtual realms. They are in this sense animations of the bodies, unsettled in their relationship to fixed boundaries or form. The third passage relates to the dimension of the soul in the form of a brooch. All three passages are recorded as movement captured within the flux of gestural marks. These marks are light forms that indicate a dynamic interplay between light, matter and thought. This is a way of figuring the human being as thinking light. Each passage is understood as a frequency that is actualised by colour and this in turn releases the free play of the imagination in order to discover new relation.

  • My work presents a journey into the obscure thresholds lodged between knowing and not knowing related to facial and bodily appearance and identity. Mixing mediums and genres together they aim to create a series of fragmentary narratives that rupture the relationship between interiority and exteriority in order to reveal the stages of becoming outside of secure identity. Body and mind, night and day all start to coalesce into formations on the edge of dissolution.
