The Route Back Home
What will the notion of integration and public space mean after the demise of the welfare state? At a time when social interaction is constantly misunderstood as a means to tame conflicts, this project explores a provocative scenario in which two opposite extremes of society – the homeless and city worker – are brought together. Stretching from Blackfriars Bridge and Blackfriars Railway Bridge, and taking advantage of the existing structures, this design uses golf and driving ranges, as well as sheltered spaces, in which a symbiotic relation between two groups can emerge, one based on differences rather than similarities.
