It Might've Been a Walk-In Spirit (according to my 72-year-old Peruvian roommate) // Family Legacy

This installation comprises two bodies of work, It Might've Been a Walk-In Spirit (according to my 72-year-old Peruvian roommate) and Family Legacy. They both use the language of textiles to highlight issues of time and tradition; the ephemera of memory and the elusiveness of trauma. The viewer is invited to dwell on the past and succumb to the patterns and textures of the textiles.

    MA Painting, 2018

  • Personal history, as explored through textiles, has been the main focus of research during my degree. Traditional materials and patterns provide focus on my own experience while simultaneously placing the works in a larger cultural conversation. Time becomes central the works as a direct result of the time-consuming creative process, but they also indirectly evoke a sense of timelessness and ephemera. Spanning the mediums of textiles, painting, sculpture, and installation, my work tends equally towards the personal and political.
