HowToBeMoreCARRIE

I am an Irish artist based in London, trained traditionally in embroidery from The National College of Art and Design, Dublin. While carrying out my MA in Mixed Media Textiles at the Royal College of Art, I have explored a variety of techniques and processes, such as hand and machine stitch, crochet, hand and domestic knitting and have become an expandable-foam connoisseur. But the subject of my work has always been rooted in my interest in people and the human mind. Topics of Alzheimer’s disease, depression, schizophrenia and the feeling of belonging have been explored through tactile art. My dissertation, carried out during the summer of 2013, was titled ‘The Rituals and Material Cultures Surrounding Death in Catholic Ireland’. This fuelled my studio work a great deal. The final project is an exploration into art and religion with a focus on the rituals surrounding textile processes. For my final show I ask the viewer to not believe in gods, miracles and deities. I ask you to believe in me. To take the time to approach with an open mind, practice my rituals with me and, possibly, integrate my way of thinking into your life.

A sermon will take place once daily at my altar.
