Catherine, Francoise, Jacques and I (tribute to "les demoiselles de Rochefort")

After having worked in the luxury fashion industry as a textile designer, my goal at the RCA has been to investigate a new design context. To this end, I decided to contextualise textiles, colours and patterns into space.

Within my design work, the acidity and freshness of the colours and the spontaneity of the lines are inspired by Les Demoiselles de Rochefort, directed by Jacques Demy in 1966. Like in this beautiful french nouvelle vague film, I want to express feelings such as youth, dynamism and energy through my design. Devore techniques have been a fascinating chemistry process to create new transparent layers within my design and then play with the light. Furthermore, such as in Jacques Demy's film, my graduation collection depicts a story where patterns are my own characters.

I imagine my graduation textile collection being used for hotels and showrooms where a narrative and ephemeral atmosphere could be expressed. Wall papers, space dividers or blinds are just some of the options my textiles could be used for.
