'Toolkit for the Future', 'Look!', 'The Future Eye Chart'
‘Toolkit for the Future’, ‘Look!’ and ‘The Future Eye Chart’ is a group of works that consist of prints and installations. By looking through aged apparatuses that relate to optics, including a pair of binoculars and a set of eye examination lenses, the presented works invite the viewer to interact with its different components that suggest an ambiguous, indecisive, imaginary view of the future. The centrepiece of the installation - the prints, are modifications of found printed materials. Through looking into the fundamental scientific and trustworthy nature of mass-produced prints, and its primary function of distributing ideas and sharing knowledge, the work ultimately prompts the question of what we believe in, and what the alternatives are. In addition, the set of works interrogate the artist’s hometown, Hong Kong’s colonial history, but it also portrays how the city’s identity and future are constantly challenged.

Bonnie is a visual artist born and raised in Hong Kong. She works extensively with two-dimensional medium, including prints, photography, and books by incorporating them in installations. In the process, elements in found materials are added or deleted and intervened with drawings and notations. Her works aim to provoke questions surrounding the norms of the authoritative nature of prints. By examining the history of places, collecting and altering maps, she challenges the conventional truths that are associated with the production of printed matters. She also sees her work as socio-political commentary. Her work looks into the current state where the privilege to determine the identity and destiny are in the hands of few authorities contributing to an unjust power structure.
Bonnie’s MA dissertation, 'Me and You, Standing in front of a Door', is a piece of writing that looks into how we, as human beings, are accustomed to building intangible walls to separate ourselves from one another. She explores how different ideologies, mainly those that stem from Christianity, have shaped us into seeing ourselves as different, and as a result, find it challenging to walk into an unfamiliar territory to understand each other.
Bonnie is also a photographer and an illustrator. She is a member of the Rage Collective, which was established at the Royal College of Art. The collective shares a mutual enthusiasm for developing ideas and art projects that often encompass politics and global issues.
