The whole body is implicated in the cognitive process – humans think through their bodies. One might say in a sense, the mind stretches as far as the body’s surface, even further still: The mind seeps out beyond the skin, becoming coextensive with the world. Mind is in the matter, matter is in the mind. I look at thinking inhabited in gestures, postures and emotions.
With a background in both Cognitive Science and Visual Communication, my goal is to facilitate a relationship between perceptual scientists and visual communicators. Firstly, to engage visual communicators in the research process in scientific investigations. Secondly, to create a mutual dialogue and platform through the use of narrative, metaphors and analogies.
Since tactile sensations mediate so much of our emotions, material investigation become important in my works. I use interactive devices, experiences, sensations, typography and drawing to explore the relationships between people, objects and environment.
