You Are Lonely No More

The depiction of flowers for my degree show is an installation ‘You Are Lonely No More’, where I sought a darker resonance in them to dissect a metaphor for the inescapability of death rather than beauty and purity. Lethal weapons’ systems from the toxic Gelsemium plant to the self-propelled artillery mortar systems in Russia called 2S4 Tulip, the 2S5 Hyacinth and the 2S7 Peony, the last of which is capable of shooting nuclear artillery rounds, are only some of the concerns in this potential current world-wide political unrest that have influenced my thinking.

    MA Painting, 2017

  • I moved to the UK in 2003 from Russia where I was born and raised. My cross-cultural references and experiences inform my practice. The dual identifies act as a filter, through which the possibility of translations emerge. These embodied dualities take many forms for others in contemporary culture, for some, an enriching weave of their social fabric, for others problematic and potentially traumatic. My exploration and research of these issues take the form of painting, drawing, object-making and installation. The trajectories of thinking spread over symbolic meaning and rituals, conspiracies and cabals, inner and outer, individual and collective, domestic and social, unique and mass-produced, historic and contemporary, often meet at the corner of hiding and revealing.
