In 2004, I graduated from the department of Art History and Theory at the Art Academy of Latvia where the focus of my research was on graphic design in the 1960s in Soviet Latvia.
From 2006 until 2011, I was a regular contributor to the design magazine Dizaina Studija (Design Studio, published by Neputns) addressing issues of contemporary graphic design. There I interviewed many well-known graphic designers such as Paula Scher (Pentagram, New York), Jan Wilker (Karssonwilker, New York), Philippe Apeloig (Paris), among others. In 2008 and 2010, I attended the International Biennial of Graphic Design in Brno as well as visiting, for example, ECAL (the University of Art and Design) in Lausanne in order to gather material for my articles. In 2010, I was awarded the annual Latvian Design Award for journalism by the Latvian Designers’ Society.
In addition to this, I am also interested in curatorial practice. I have organised a few contemporary art exhibitions individually as well as collaborated with the Design Information Centre in Latvia. In 2010, I worked as a curator at the Latvian Museum of Photography and from 1999 until 2005 I worked at the Riga Gallery, one of the most prestigious art galleries in Latvia. I have also gained experience in the public sector through my appointment as an expert in visual arts at the State Culture Capital Foundation between 2008 and 2009.
