MA work
Through my practice, I wish to examine whether a multiplicity of languages, styles, quotations and mannerisms can be explored simultaneously; 'harnessed and liberated' in such a way as to render them poignant vehicles for my own subjective reflection on identity. I want to look deep into the chasm between self and other, to interrogate the status of a gesture: Is it my own? How so? Is it purely referential, or is it imbued with feeling, with my body? I want to define for myself the nature of authenticity, and consider through painting the process of subjectivisation - of making one's own something formerly alien.
