A Handy Tip for the Easily Distracted

Procrastination is both immersive and distracting. It is a state of mind, an unspoken burden. Miranda July presents this paradox in her video A Handy Tip for the Easily Distracted, when a woman traps distracting objects, including her laptop. It is apparent she suffers in her relationship with the screen. But where attitudes towards this relationship are increasingly negative – asking if the screen detaches us from ‘reality’ – by taking A Handy Tip as the focus of radiating thematic inquiries, indications of real, embodied intent become apparent.
