Material Traces and Palpable Atmospheres

For her MA degree show Alice will show a fragmented sound piece, broken down through the analogue blips and tape hiss of cassette recording, leaving but a shadow of the original.

  • Alice Blackstock seeks to catch whispers. She is drawn to murmuring places with lingering atmospheres. Her background in Knitted Textiles has greatly influenced a process-led approach. Alice works manually with machines and enjoys the rhythm of standing and working. She holds exhibitions without walls in open air spaces including Battersea Beach. Through processes of layering and embossing Alice captures material traces. During her time at the Royal College of Art she discovered the medium of sound and uses analogue and digital recordings to create a palpable atmosphere.
