MA work

MA work

A study of how digital artefacts grow on and erode scans of museum objects. By taking 3D scan data of a 4,000 year old grain grinding stone, translating it into a real object by using CNC (computer numerical control) milling, 3D scanning that object, CNCing that scan, and so on, the unique geological processes and ecology of apparently sterile environments and methods of reproduction express themselves.

  • My work examines museums, which are primarily tasked with ordering the world, and the chaotic wilderness of distorted time, weird rituals, and unique ecology that exists within them. I hope that by finding points of connection between museums and the cultures of other times and places that they display, we can be absorbed into a larger story while testing the foundations of institutional authority.
