When the oceans were seeded with keels and the wind began to take their sails to the remotest shores, the adventurers of ancient Europe arrived on the coasts of the Fortunate Islands.
Attributed a magical geography in the darkness of the Middle Ages, with peaks and troughs that could reach the heart, they were habitats for giants, dwarves and fantastical beasts, some strong and others wise.
In the libraries of the Kings of the Old World I have found stories that are preserved in classical languages and are hermetically sealed, telling of the extravagance and rarities of these islands. These are those stories.

Jungblut is the pseudonym of Swiss-Italian illustrator and storyteller Alessandra Mariani.
Raised on an island off the coast of Africa, I now work out of London, while also attending the Visual Communication programme at the Royal College of Art.
Through a wide variety of cultural influences, my work combines juxtaposition, metaphor and symbolism to form a unique visual language.
