OpenAIR

OpenAIR is a vehicle based sensor network using para-transit (rickshaws) designed for Lahore, Pakistan. It collects and disseminates air quality data in order to raise awareness, provoke a community dialogue, empower citizens and provide a tool for advocacy and evidence based policy reform.

This project provides a novel solution to the dichotomy between accurate and cost effective sensors, by using a high volume deployment of low cost sensors aggregated for a more accurate data set. It does this by measuring the ambient conditions that can affect sensor failure, instead of trying to control them. Over time, and as more sensors are added to the network, the system will be able to better assess the underlying patterns of conditions, within which the sensors are performing reliably, and therefore be able to identify and extract meaningful data.
