On Terra-Firma: Space, Place and the Moving Image
My practice-based PhD research is on the relationship between space and place and the moving image. Bernard Stiegler's theory of technics provides a way of investigating how the moving image changes as it moves from the cinema into the space of the gallery. Contrary to the current vogue in video art, the 'pictorialism' of video, I regard the moving image as an object-image, where the spectral effect of the moving image traces its absence.
