MA work
My practice is based around notions of auto-destruction and its relationship to language. My current body of work has been looking at the impact of the internet and the way in which new technologies and public forums are re-defining the way we use the English language.
The work I am using in the RCA summer show is taken from a body of work based around online languages and particularly the role of the internet troll. As language is an impermanent thing, I was interested to investigate how textspeak and internet language was shortening, abbreviating, re-shaping and ultimately, destroying language. However, through further investigation I realised that language used through anonymous, trolling internet forums was actually being used as a global ideoglossia (a language spoken and understood by a small section of society).
