Out of Place
My research addresses the underexplored area of psychological discomfort in the urban realm and how to create better public space. It examines how anxiety, whether clinically or self-diagnosed, whether severely debilitating or barely perceptible feelings of being out of place, can cause difficulties for the user through an alteration in their perception. It argues that by examining the individual perspective as it is altered by anxiety and negotiating potential relationships within the social space, the level of comfort regarding all potential experiences within the space can be improved.
