Walking the Long Way Home
Walking the Long Way Home is a visual essay which critiques female experiences in public spaces. It draws upon research from collective accounts and discussions, cultural commentary and theory, and other readings to help shape and present its position. It identifies the everyday aggressions and obstacles that women are faced with as they navigate public spaces, and uses image making to respond to a range of accounts and critical theory. Walking the Long Way Home utilises a variety of platforms in order to disseminate its position; operating online, in print and using installation to reclaim public spaces.

I am a mixed-media image-maker and writer, whose practice concerns itself with gender politics and feminist issues.Â
My recent work explores how the phantoms of femininity impact upon female identity and experience. These phantoms are the everyday ideals, pressures, structures and positions that are embedded in our culture, preventing us from progressing in our fight for gender equality. They fuel anxiety and fear, and attempt to keep women in a vulnerable, secondary place. Â
Through practice based research and social commentary, I aim to not only identify, inform and critique current social issues and structures, but to also create work with archival potential, so that future generations can look at these narratives as a window into female experience today.
