London under attack: If sea levels rise at the predicted rate, then the 1 in a 1,000 year flood event for which the Thames Barrier was designed will increase in likelihood to a 1 in a 100 year chance of occurrence. This is a tenfold increase in the chance of the barrier being breached and London being inundated. There is an opportunity to act now to prevent this scenario, and Extreme H2O Phenomena proposes the possibility of solving this problem, not through the construction of additional barriers, but through a series of architectural interventions along the river. These structures not only accommodate the floodwaters, but turn this event into an opportunity.
