    One track module is approx. 1meter long. Diameter of small sphere lights 120mm, pendant light diameter 140mm.

Module LED Light

My final project is about exploring the possibility of re-defining common technical solutions with a more tactile and aesthetic approach. In this respect it continues my personal concept of creating. I am always driven by the need to find the 'ultimate solution', always looking for the self-evident, logic, but at the same time also surprising answer. Design which is capable of delivering an experience.

The light is basically a low-voltage conductive rail, which is made from thermoformable Grada wood material by UPM and metal stripes. Executed first as a modular track light it partly shifts the attention from the light source to the rail itself, converting the often merely technical necessity of the rail into a main component. Thus it aims to reveal a hidden aesthetic potential from the purely technical solutions by merging the material and construction with the function of the object. The rail comes in one metre long parts and two different shapes to create a large variety of possible layouts. The lights are 'snapped on' with magnetic contacts for a simple, fun and versatile use. Pendant lights round out the options. 

The rail could also function as a power source for charging portable devices, or even support loudspeaker.

  • As a designer I feel that beauty is a dimension often neglected in today’s man-made world. I explore the possibilities of creating beauty through my choices of materials and technical solutions. Purely engineered results may sometimes fascinate through their honesty for the necessary in order to achieve a purpose. Refining this aesthetic and uncovering hidden beauty within the context of the design and manufacturing is what motivates my work. I believe that in addition to a solution-seeking approach, we also need to design content and experiences.
