I am a glassmaker whose practice is characterised by an inquisitive, experimental and progressive engagement with materials and process. With a practice that moves deftly between art, craft and design, I endeavour to push the boundaries of kiln glass into new and exciting territories and reassess the traditional perceptions of glass; technically, aesthetically and materially.
My work is concerned with themes of materiality and material resonance. Glassmaking has a rich and fertile heritage of imitating other materials – particularly those of higher value and status. I utilise the transformative power and metamorphic capabilities of glass to emulate the physical characteristics of other materials; however, by referencing lower-value, modest materials, I aim to challenge the orthodoxies of material hierarchy, value and status.
