Irene Fuga

MA work

Whatever I do and wherever I go, I hunt for stories embedded in the fabric of mundane and everyday situations. I am interested in people’s experiences and feelings towards issues and frustrations determined by the human condition. My stories often explore tensions between the self in relation to others and what defines the boundaries between the two. As writer Hanif Kureishi once said, ‘There is a childish awkwardness in fiction, as it is like taking dreams seriously.’ A room filled with empty cages, the room of past obsessions and unfulfilled desires. A girl stares at the flimsy vision of her dreams – a mysterious man. Reality and imagination start to blend in Pica, a film about obsession and idealised love.
