    Wall composition

Digital : Archaeology

I make and decorate plates which I arrange on the wall in compositions. Whilst the body of the plate is made using a jigger jolley, the outline and rim are finished by hand.  It is impossible to make two plates the same: each one is unique.

My hand drawings, based on grids, geometry, data and code, are used to decorate the plates.  When I start my drawings they need to feel ordered and complete, but as the process evolves the structure starts to break down.  The arrangement of the plates on the wall reimposes a sense of order and a pattern emerges.

I have a background in archaeology and accountancy, both of which influence my creative practice and visual language.  Machine and hand, order and chaos, analogue and digital all combine to make patterns and compositions.
