Major project:
Precarious Emotion
My whole collection is a cathartic experience to explore my own precarious emotions through footwear.
The initial idea was from a nightmare I had where I am filled with anxiety. My dreams always give me a sense of crisis, which makes me feel stress.
Based on the dream, I use the horror film, Lights Out, as my main inspiration to help define the uneasy emotion. The designs, research and development were all from this film. The film is about a ghost that only appears in the dark. The only way to see it clear is by using a UV light. The reason I chose this film is because the ghost in this film symbolises the nightmares that come from negative emotions.
The design process is like a self-healing process for me, which helps me get rid of the influence of my negative emotions. This creative process relaxes my emotional instability and makes me more clear about my self-awareness.

Influenced by modern and contemporary fashion and her attention to fine details, Yiran is an exceptional designer who thinks outside the box. She is a designer influenced by obscure shapes and materials. Being different and exceeding the limits of convention, and pushing boundaries, is where Yiran's comfort zone lay.
