Show RCA work

Major project:

I initiated an explicitly voyeuristic exercise: documenting people completing mundane activities, in the liminal spaces of our collective everyday experience.

I capture them during their free time. On their commute. On buses, trains and platforms – which spaces are preserved for us to do nothing in – time is allowed to wash over us. We can but sit – read, listen or watch – and wait, together.

My attention is focused upon the ubiquitous, mundane, restrictive suit. Its simple appearance, so omnipresent as to be taken for granted, disguises a complex construction, and layers of symbolism.

Observing the body within the suit, I extrapolate upon softer moments – when its wearer is in motion, shifting, slouching or docile.

This process allows me to aestheticise the mundanities of the everyday.

  • My practice is inspired by capturing people during their free time – often in spaces that are preserved for us to do nothing in – where we can only sit, read, listen or watch – and wait, together.

I'm very inspired by the work of artists such as Olga Chernysheva and Dea Trier Mørch. Their work beautifully aestheticises our ordinary existence.
