This project aims to reconsider the design of e-products in order to reduce the impact from electronic waste. At present, 80 per cent of disposed e-products will end up in landfills. The biggest reason for this is the complicated process of de-manufacturing, which can only be done by manual labor.
Through this project, the designer redesigned the keyboard as an example of how to extend the life of an e-product. By simplifying the structure, users can repair products by themselves without any professional tools. Also, this product can now be separated into different recyclable material after usage by following several easy steps.
This design meets the challenge from three intervention points in the circular economy – there are fewer types of materials to manufacture, it is easy to repair, and it can be disassembled for recycling.

Yuguo Chen is an industrial designer interested in exploring innovation in product design. He believes achieving a good design requires trying things others do not dare to do.
Before getting his degree from the Royal College of Art, he worked at Frog Design as an industrial designer, and had some practical experience in designing hardware, interaction and services. At the RCA, Yuguo focused on both sustainable design territory and social interaction design, exploring how design can be used to improve social issues.
