Major project:
Amoeba
Amoeba
As urban environments continue to develop – outwards, upwards and underground – the increasingly impactful issue of noise pollution continues to affect cities' soundscapes and the lives of its inhabitance. What can artists and designers do to positively impact spaces that suffer from a lack of safe, quiet or pleasant sonic environments? After all, cities are for people and should be designed as such.
Amoeba is an exploration of the psychological effects of noise. Barney has focused on how different modes of listening can be used to challenge the perception of space and raise awareness of the growing issue of noise pollution through immersive sound installations.
By deconstructing reality through frequency, Barney appropriates ambient soundscapes ranging from London streets, to a riot in Paris, into his immersive experiences. Based on his research in cognitive neuroscience he has created experiences, which raises awareness of sound processing disorders, and how our brains trick us every day to make us ever more blind to the growing environmental issue of noise pollution.
The outcome will be an immersive installation.
