Major project:
Intimate Collectivities: Street as an Infrastructure for Care
The project is an attempt to reinterpret the ‘Healthy Streets for London’ strategy beyond a provision of mobility infrastructures. By challenging the divide between public and private of modern city planning and its associated practices of intimacy and care, the project imagines a diverse and active occupation of the street – beyond retail. It proposes a strategic network of self-care amenities at a neighbourhood level – toilets, bathing, drinking water and resting spaces – that encourage a distributed life in the city. The proposal expands urban planning and design to include varying speeds and modes of operation as an alternative to the intense activity based conceptualisation of the street. Consequently, it makes caring for the body a visible activity, occurring in the public realm. Urinating, defecating, bathing, washing, resting become, as much a decent and moral activity as walking, running or cycling.

I am a multi-disciplinary designer and researcher, investigating the politics of city making and planning. My design-led research inquiries – from the scale of an object to an urban plan – attempt to rethink contemporary physical and digital environments as inclusive social infrastructures.
