Gao Xianxing
Xianxing Gao
Show RCA work
Major project:
'I' & 'One Day'
Gao Xianxing's work is anchored by her interest in dreams. Acknowledging the Western ideas pioneered by Freud, but principally led by Eastern ideas on consciousness and dream construction, she has placed herself as a primary material in the production of her work. Utilising her own ID documents, body hair and memories, the works are poetic, personal and subtle. When viewing the works, a viewer is invited principally to speculate on the constructed self as an expressed identity in sculptural form.
Her originality comes from a uniquely personal position, communicating this boldly without apology in quiet detailed powerful work.
