Show RCA 2019

Jiacheng Wang

Show RCA work

Major project:

Skyscraper

The work ‘Skyscraper’ aims to let people think about a mock city from birth to death. The skyscrapers in an urban city, which rushes into the sky to attract people to climb it, are like desires in people's hearts. In the progress of the climb, those who fight for profit will hurt each other for profit. Although the skyscrapers are gorgeous, beautiful and full of temptation, they are also as fragile as glass or bubbles. When the buildings collapse, what is next for those who yearn for success and are overwhelmed by the pressure to pursue it?

Everyone from birth has the ability to be greedy. The only way we can truly live is to protect the innocence in our heart and guard the bottom line of our actions.

Everybody has a desirable world in their mind, which contains a few skyscrapers for them to climb. I hope that people never forget why they started and reject temptation from the beast of desire when they chase their dreams.

The work ‘Skyscraper’ is made of wood, concrete and acrylic. The materials the artist used are mainly from architecture and parks. She tried to cover concrete on the surface of wood to express the idea of a different hidden meaning in a perfect skyscraper. The round mirrored acrylic at the bottom is like a mirror in everyone's heart for facing the realities of life.
