Show RCA 2019

OnJung Amy Kim

Show RCA work

Major project:

Sometimes I want to be a child, sometimes I want to bear a child

OnJung Amy Kim’s artworks are about her process of displaying ironic states of childhood reminiscence and passed time. Her work presents her detection of contradictory desires, which have an overwhelming power, but at the same time function as the driving force of her life. Her artworks express acceptance and the embrace of a contradictory and often distorted self, away from its readjustment or alternation.

Her recent works use integration and crossover methods between painting and printmaking, with the construction of hand-crafted images. By using the objects/subjects that she was once obsessed with, OnJung continues to acknowledge their needlessness for her survival. This ironic condition is created in her work as a virtual space, where different dimensions come together.

Info

  • OnJung Amy Kim is an artist based in London (UK) and Seoul (South Korea). Her artistic approach is to produce vibrant and imaginative works which contain layers of delicate labour and carry a cocktail of childlike imagery. Intestinal abstractions, candy colours and confectionary all combine to produce intoxicating pictures that shift across discomfort and pleasure. Subjects such as emotion and spirituality are translated into a visual language and staged so that viewers may empathise with a bodily form that shifts between the lines of intimacy and uncanniness.
