Devanté Ferguson’s practice experiments using light. Light as a component of making work that can transform its reading, perhaps creating a sense of limbo. Taking used materials and finding the aesthetic beauty through reflections and transparent matter. Ferguson is attempting to find or expose depths of meaning through these processes. Another aspect is looking at an archive of photos taken in the past by Devanté Ferguson, passing these through various printing processes, scanning and projecting to test how these images with different surfaces can mutate and perform differently. There is an ongoing concern with landscape – both apparently stable forms such as rock formations but also constantly mobile elements like clouds and water. The investigation of how we understand and perceive these is an important aspect of Ferguson’s practice.
