Squaring Square is a series of paintings that investigates rebellion and control within the parameter of convention. I reform the structure of square stretcher frames into new forms by adding and subtracting the base material. Colour acts as a contrast to highlight the modifications.
The irony of tradition brings me to reflect on the notions of success and failure with the object called painting. The constructional dispute that arises on the action of painting relating to its surface: to construct, reconstruct, making careful mistakes while also correcting and building a new framework within the limitations. I am interested in the idea of adaptation in a world that requires ones to fit in to survive, how tensions and disagreements happen but we adjust to stay within the system.
