Show RCA work

Major project:

Painting Is a Journey

Each work is made in one visit and is an immersive, sensory engagement held within the materiality of paint. I explore a connection between the practice of shamanic journeying and painting. These shapes and colours are experience and they are led by the rhythm of a drum.

Info

  • My paintings are made by combining pigment and rabbit skin glue, a technique developed from the tradition of distemper. There is a dual relationship between shamanic practice and the paintings, each practice begins by stating an intention or asking a question, followed by a journey that is both a sensory and imaginative immersion. I am led by the rhythm of a tool; either the drum or the brush. The resulting paintings are experiential journeys, a temporal space is created between entering and exiting the canvas and this is where the painting is made, in one visit.
