Show RCA 2019

Yiqi Wu

Show RCA work

Major project:

Things We Recall With

Yiqi Wu created a delicate and sensitive archive with evocative objects from seven strangers. She gave the objects a second life and a new identity by filling their empty spaces with new pieces made of precious metals and other materials in an attempt to explore how everyday objects become part of our inner life, and how we use them to extend the reach of our sympathies by bringing the world within.

Her works emerge from various found objects and reflect upon the trace of the past that these often strange items hold.

Info

  • Yiqi Wu is a jewellery artist. Regarding her pursuit of contemporary art, she has been searching for the poetical expression of emotions, memories, fragility and insignificant details of daily life. She is addicted to strangers’ stories and has a keen interest in familiar yet odd things. Also, she attempts to combine different objects and ideas to endow them with new meanings and life. Thus, the potential of an object is the source of her experience, the fragment of memory and the lost label. Humans are devoted to projecting emotions onto objects, which is how we leave traces in the world. Personally speaking, jewellery is the most symbolic language that she has chosen to explore. She is creating an archive that records time through her unique, delicate and sensitive artistic taste.
