Major project:
Home Adornment
I am interested in the connections between jewellery and domestic objects.
A house, on its own, is like a body. Domestic objects are like jewellery for the house.
Can parts of a wallpaper design become brooches?
Can a door chain have a dual function as a bracelet?
Can jewellery have a more visible, decorative place in the home for when it is not in use, rather than covering its beauty in a jewellery box?
We decorate our bodies. We decorate our houses. The behaviour of decorating makes us human and that gives meaning to who we are. Bringing jewellery and domestic objects into the context of one another, I create works that have the ability to transform from domestic objects into jewellery and back again, challenging the notion of what jewellery is, what adornment does and what they mean to us.
