Info

  • Puyu Liang is a Chinese jewellery maker and designer, who is passionate about understanding and exploring the relationship between jewellery and the human body.

Currently she is doing research at the Royal College of Art in London to complete her Master’s degree in Jewellery Design.

Born in a small city in China called Zhanjiang, she spent her childhood there, benefitting from observing her father working in the family jewellery business. Later she learnt about Gerd Rothmann, the renowned jewellery designer, and she was inspired to study to be a designer herself. She graduated from London College of Fashion with a Bachelor's degree in Fashion Jewellery.

Gerd Rothmann remains a key influence in Puyu’s work, together with Una Burke, as Puyu continues her own daily exploration of the dialogue between the human body and its surroundings, and how it interacts with and is represented by the objects around it.

In her work, Puyu uses traditional gold, silver and metalworking techniques, occasionally combining them with leather work to create distinct and subtly unique references to the complexity of the human form.

The end result is beauty in design, absorbing and reflecting the essential nature of human relationships with each other and with their environment.
