Major project:
Here it is windless. There all was breath.
I deliberately change the action of normal human breath. I try to put pressure and resistance on my body at the same time, to show the elastic relationship between forces in real life and the difference of injury degree. Those forces fight against each other in my body and mind, between influence and being influenced, between spontaneity and acceptance, between control and letting go, between push and pull. At the same time, the action of pressure and resistance is to show my inner contradictions and anxiety, my pressure on myself and my resistance to myself. The microphone amplifies not only the sound of my breath and the momentary bursts of resistance failure, but also the process of my psychological changes of inner self-contradiction under the unsaid and the unsayable, the unknown and unknowable. It might be struggling. It could be a pain. It could be releasing and softening. It is no longer a methodology for dealing with pain. It becomes a learning process, a process of knowing myself, a process of learning how to live with myself.

Tianqi Liu works with performance art. Under her 24 hours’ prison experience in China, she works directly with her body as a site with a more minimal set of repeated actions with a different body site and a cycle of self-touch that pushes boundaries of meaning and metaphor there, to seek for a covered and hidden internality in some way examining interior space and a silent confrontation with the real mediocre days and anxious emotions, especially for the pain, the disappearance, the relationship, the power, the fear, the time as a human being in today’s society. Her practice focuses on recognising the real and fictitious parts of her capricious complex ego and self-images in the process of being infinitely internalised both in the present and in the flow of passing time.
