Major project:

Inherited Memories

Inherited Memories is an installation comprised of a two-channel film and sculptural elements, exploring the potential of transgenerational epigenetic inheritance – a notion that parent’s experiences, in the form of epigenetic tags, can be passed on to future generations.

The deeply personal film tells the story of a young Estonian railway worker, who in 1941 was nearly executed for attempting to escape conscription by the occupying forces. Seventy-seven years later, his granddaughter revisits the places from his stories to gain deeper insight into the connections between them. Archival materials are used in conjunction with contemporary imagery to show the effect that time has on places, contrasting with the universality of similar survival stories, which might very well be happening to someone somewhere, today.
