Major project:

Empathy

The video of different elements slowly distorts and comes back to its real form over time. It is being transformed and renewed. In the middle, is a figure of myself meditating; transformed and awakened.

The changing element, and myself, are entangled like a solar system.

These images are projected on a lotus sculpture.

Info

  • When I accidentally saw a video of a sea turtle being rescued by a group of scientists trying to remove plastic straw stuck in his nose, I felt a strong empathy; I could feel his pain and cried together. The straw in his nose might be one I used in the past. The experience changed my life in many ways. It changed me from not buying plastic products, to going out on the streets to raise my voice.

I thought to myself, why can’t all people feel empathy towards these issues and act upon it? If people can just take a moment and step back from how I feel and see that ecosystems are entangled and connected, and we cannot separate one's life as a whole. If so, we could make a better world. I may sound very idealistic and dreamy, but I think idealistic and dreamy thoughts make revolutions. As an artist, I am trying to make these revolutions.
